Accounting Supervisor

The Village of Carpentersville, Illinois, population of 38,241, a full-service community located in northeastern Kane County, Illinois, approximately 30 miles northwest of Chicago, seeks an Accounting Supervisor.

The Accounting Supervisor assists the Finance Department in the planning, organizing, coordination, direction and oversight of the Village’s financial activities. The individual in this position oversees (and may participate in) various Village fiscal operations including the ongoing maintenance of the accounting and computer systems, performs regular edit and updating of accounting records [e.g., month end closings, implementation of new systems and procedures, year-end accounts payable processing actions, etc.]. Supervises accounts payable, accounts receivable, utility billing, and participates in financial and related record keeping functions, and special assignments. Assists in preparing work papers for the annual audit.

The successful candidate should possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, accounting, finance, or a closely related field; and three to five years of experience, combined with minimum supervisory experience of 1-2 years (preferably in a local government setting); or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.

Planner (Part-Time)

The Village of Carpentersville is accepting applications for a part-time Planner position within its Community Development Department. The individual in this position will work a maximum of 1,500 hours annually and not more than an average of 29 hours per week. The prospective candidate generally will work flexible hours and days depending on the season, with fewer hours during the fall/winter and more hours during the spring/summer.

The essential duties of the position: Conducts field inspections and maintains effective records of inspection findings on issues regarding the zoning code, sign code, Development Standards and Design Guidelines, landscaping regulations, and approved site plans or agreements. Conducts timely plan reviews for zoning compliance. Provides professional customer service in responding to inquires related to the zoning ordinance, land use applications, site plans, legal documents, rules, regulations and related code procedures and requirements of the department to residents, design professionals, contractors, members of Village staff, and other Village customers. Communicates verbally and in writing and interacts professionally with members of the public in the field, at the permit counter, over the phone, through email and other means of correspondence. Maintains Village-wide GIS program and creates, maintains, and organizes all Village GIS files. Prepares all Village GIS maps, including the annual Zoning Map, and also prepares additional maps for Economic Development, Engineering, and Public Works as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in land use planning, municipal or urban planning, or a closely related field, any experience in current planning a plus. Strong knowledge of and ability with ESRI ArcGIS is required. Member of American Institute of Certified Planners, preferred.

The hourly rate for this position is $23.50. Benefits offered by the Village of Carpentersville include participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.

Public Works Worker (Part-time)

The Village of Carpentersville is accepting applications for a part-time worker to perform a variety of duties in its Public Works Department. Snowplowing and paving experience is preferred. Applicants must be 18 years or older, possess a high school diploma or G.E.D, and have a valid Illinois driver’s license.

Work hours will be limited to 29.5 per week, generally 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, but will change depending on weather conditions and job assignment. This is a permanent part time position with no overtime or benefits.

Starting pay is $13.00 – $15.00 per hour depending on qualifications.
